WHO WE ARE

Mark Daniel's Bee Company (MDBC), a family-owned and operated business, came to life in 2013 amongst the sandy southern shores of Lake Michigan in Porter, Indiana. MDBC, founded by Mark himself, began simply with a dream and 5 hives. Mark instantly knew that he’d found his passion in beekeeping and quickly discovered he needed more to satisfy the “itch”. Starting in year 2, MDBC embarked upon adding hives to the operation, which has successfully led to continued annual growth. Expansion of the hives brought the realization that Mark needed help. Thankfully, Mark readily found encouragement and support in his brother, Paul, sister-In-law, Allison, and his nieces and nephew—they happily joined MDBC to further Mark’s dream of keeping bees.

LOCAL QUEENS

MDBC raises local queens from our very own Northern Indiana over-wintered colonies. Our queens are open-mated, and are observed for quality laying before they are made available for purchase.

LOCAL HONEY

“Wildflower honey”, also known as polyfloral honey, is derived from the nectar of many species of flowers. Because the taste, aroma, and flavor of wildflower honey will vary from season to season, MDBC combines the different seasons of honey that our bees produce. The combining of the bounties from various seasons gives us a unique honey that has a wonderful balance of flavor, color, and texture that is wildly popular amongst our local pollen allergy sufferers. While MDBC's honey is from Indiana, primarily local to Porter and LaPorte counties, we also provide specialty honeys from our network of small farms located within the United States.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

MDBC has educational programs for all ages and interest levels. Such programs include: Beginners beekeepingHands-on beekeepingWhat bees do; and How can I help the bees? Groups small and large, young and old, enjoy Mark’s teachings as he delivers vital information about bees and beekeeping—all of which he holds dearly and is eager to share with others. It is through this education that Mark shares his passion and plants the seed of interest for future beekeepers and bee preservation.
